About Me
I am a fourth to fifth grade looping teacher at Henry Wilson Memorial School where I have worked for twelve years. I live in the house built by my great-great grandfather in 1861 on land granted to his great-great-great grandfather in 1661. My family has continuously owned and occupied the same piece of land for over 350 years. We also have about 300 years of teachers in the family and several authors. What a family history!
I have been married for twenty-seven years and have four twenty-something children. They are dancers, film-makers, musicians, and live sound engineers. Certainly a very creative bunch of young people. We also recently adopted a rescue Shih Tzu from Louisiana named Belle.
I love my chosen profession as a teacher. I have a long and varied career in education. I started off in a special education program, but quit school to have children. Going back to work later, I discovered early childhood education and taught preschool for ten years. Finally I finished my degree and got my certification for elementary education. Although I originally thought I only wanted to teach in the primary grades, I am now so happy that I am in the middle grades. There is so much happening in these important years and we have a chance to make a real difference. I am known as the "data queen" in my grade level because I love to use assessment to guide my instruction. I am in the middle of getting my Master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology, so I am trying to integrate a lot of technology into my teaching.
When I am not teaching, I am the chairman and head archivist of the Dunnybrook Historical Foundation. I also like to read and compose/arrange music. For eight years I directed the annual middle school musicals at HWMS.
